DESCRIPTION: European, a very large Victorian cast brass table clock, with an equally large double chain fusee movement with heavy solid plates. Strikes the hours on a very large coiled wire cathedral gong. The case is profusely decorated with leaves and swags, a winged cherub below the 7" silvered dial with Arabic numerals, + surmounted by 4 pineapple finials and giant double acanthus swags with ribbon binding, c.1880.
CONDITION: The brass case is complete and sound, a couple of panels need tightening. It was perhaps gilded originally, and is now polished to brass. This is a high quality item, certainly a special order or limited production model. Weight approaches one hundred pounds, so ask for help when moving. Chains on the movement are intact, and it ticks and strikes, but may benefit from service before regular use. Ht 28"
